Foothills Sports Medicine Physical Therapy

by Foothills Sports Medicine Physical Therapy

Foothills Sports Medicine is dedicated to providing high quality physical therapy to patients across Arizona, helping them achieve the best results possible. We’ve become the premier physical therapy group in the Valley because of our passionate team of therapists who’ve dedicated their lives to helping others recover and become stronger. Each month, we highlight one of our therapists to bring attention to the contributions they’ve made to the Foothills team. Our latest PT of the Month is Aaron Parr, from our Surprise physical therapy clinic.
Aaron grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and went on to attend St. Louis University in Missouri, where he earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Since graduating, he has also become an Orthopedic Certified Specialist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and earned a Functional Movement Screen certificate. He joined the Foothills team in 2013 after he completed a clinical rotation in Phoenix and decided the Surprise physical therapy clinic was the place to be.
Aaron’s unique journey to a career as a PT began in high school. He tore his MCL while playing soccer, and went into physical therapy to rehabilitate his injury. Six weeks into PT, he asked if he was ready to play in a big, upcoming tournament. His therapist told him no, but Aaron told his parents and coach that he was cleared. Five minutes into the first game of the tournament, he tore his MCL again. Unfortunately this landed him back in PT, but he now knew exactly what he wanted to do with his career.
When asked what he most enjoys about being a physical therapist, Aaron says “definitely the patients.” He explained the Surprise physical therapy location has a dynamic and varied patient base, giving Aaron the opportunity to create great relationships.
“I’ve had a number of patients who still text or call me,” he says. “The success stories, and even just when you help people to get where they need to be – that’s something that is very rewarding.”
Aaron also added that dealing with various patients who all have different needs can also be one of the more difficult aspects of physical therapy. Some patients require more attention than others, and you have to not only allot the appropriate time for their rehabilitation, but also determine their specific needs. “The most challenging thing about being a therapist is figuring out what each individual patient needs to succeed. But when you do find it, it’s great,” he says.
On a typical day, Aaron spends most of his time treating patients. One of his most important tasks is making sure everything is coordinated between patients in the clinic, their care outside PT, their doctors, and ensuring everything is smooth between all departments. “In today’s system, people get lost and it’s no fun when you go from one place to another, and everyone says something different or they don’t know what you’re talking about,” Aaron says. This is why he says it is important to find a way to make the patient feel like everyone is there for them.
Aaron describes the Surprise physical therapy clinic as a unique setting with an atmosphere of success and a feeling of family. People share information and techniques and ask questions. “Everyone feels they’re just as important as the next person,” he says.
When he’s not in the office treating patients, Aaron spends his free time traveling and working on research. When asked what advice he would give to people considering a career in physical therapy, he thought for a while before giving his response.
“One of the more rewarding things in life is being able to help others. If you want a job where you aren’t sitting behind a desk, and you’re making a difference in people’s lives, then you should seriously consider physical therapy,” he says.
