We don’t mean to brag (okay, maybe we do), but all of our physical therapy offices are full of hardworking and positive staff members. In an effort to give kudos and show our appreciation, each month we name a Physical Therapist (PT) of the Month. This month, Jamie Miller, Clinic Director at our Litchfield Park location, took the title.
Jamie grew up in Arizona around Pinetop-Lakeside. After participating in a volunteer project at an early age, she knew her future was in the physical therapy industry. Volunteering at a physical therapy office in high school solidified her decision. “I always wanted to help people and this experience sealed the deal for me,” says Jamie.
After high school, Jamie attended Northern Arizona University (NAU) where she earned both her undergraduate (in exercise science) and doctorate (in physical therapy) degrees.
We became acquainted with Jamie when she attended a continuing education course sponsored by Foothills Sports Medicine. She was the only student that wasn’t already a Foothills staff member.
“I guess they saw the fire in me to be the best therapist I could be for others, because I was later called and offered an interview and eventually a position with the company,” says Jamie. In 2012, Jamie joined our team as a staff therapist. She has since become the Clinic Director of the Litchfield Park physical therapy office.
A typical day for Jamie includes evaluating and treating patients, overseeing the clinic, and developing community relationships. At the office, you can find her developing exercise programs, using hands-on therapy to improve movement, mentoring colleagues, monitoring patient experiences, and working to make, in Jamie’s words, “the business world go ’round.”
Her favorite thing about the position is interacting with patients. “I get to meet amazing people, every day of the year,” says Jamie.
In her free time, Jamie enjoys running, baking, and spending time with her family and friends — including her 16-month-old baby boy.
In five to ten years’ time, she sees herself helping others bring their dreams to fruition through mentoring. Additionally, she wants to lead the expansion of the Litchfield Park location. If you are interested in a career in physical therapy, Jamie has some advice for you.
“It’s hard work, it’s a lot of school. You will have to be dedicated, but it is the most rewarding thing you can do for others, all day, every day,” says Jamie.
